Chemical Peels for Treating Acne Scars

Chemical Peels May Be Helpful

  • Chemical peels refer to a broad range of chemical treatments of the skin. Some of these may be appropriate for treating certain acne scarring. A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which then is left on for a certain amount of time. The peel dissolves tissue cells, spurring the growth of new tissue, while improving the look and texture of the skin. The dead cells then slough off, revealing new skin cells.

Topical treatments such as Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), or glycolic acids may also be used to remove some of the superficial layers of the skin and improve skin texture.

When treating acne scars, its best to consult with an experienced physician to learn more about the various treatment options now available.
