    Microdermabrasion, sometimes called a 'lunch-time peel', refers to a number of devices and techniques that remove a very superficial portion of the skin, usually the dead layer of protective cells on the very surface of the skin. As such deeper scarring may not be dramatically improved as with laser treatment, however the skin is exfoliated, the texture improved, and areas of darker pigmentation are lightened. The structual improvement microdermabrasion makes on acne scars is very minimal. To really make an improvement in the scarring we need to use more aggressive treatments, such as fractional treatments.

    Different Methods of Microdermabrasion

    There are a variety of methods that can do this, from abrasive particulate and non-particulate methods. A practitioner can be more or less aggressive with microdermabrasion and perform it in combination with other techniques like chemical peels, which can enhance the penetration of the chemical peel.
